Indian women’s skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur has overtaken Meg Lanning to become the second-leading run-scorer in the history of Women’s T20 Internationals (T20Is). Harmanpreet scored 66 against the UAE earlier in the tournament, bringing her total to 3415 T20I runs, surpassing Lanning’s 3405 runs.
Additionally, Indian opener Smriti Mandhana is on the brink of another milestone. With 3378 T20I runs to her name, Mandhana has the opportunity to surpass the former Australian captain’s record and become the third highest run-scorer in the history of Women’s T20Is with a significant performance against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup semi-finals.
New Zealand veteran Suzie Bates remains the leading run-scorer in women’s T20I cricket with 4348 runs. Bates recently added a team-best 117 runs during the five-match T20I series against England. However, with Harmanpreet and Mandhana both in excellent form, they could potentially close in on Bates’ record with strong innings in the ongoing Asia Cup.
The Indian women’s cricket team will face Bangladesh in the first semi-final of the competition on Friday at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. The second semi-final, featuring Sri Lanka Women and Pakistan Women, will also be held at the same venue later in the evening.
